IIT Kanpur to set up Artificial Intelligence Research Center

IIT Kanpur is going to setup an Artificial Intelligence Research Centre, which will strengthen the available streams in the AI at the institution.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) is pondering on its idea of setting up a research center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT). The main purpose of this centre will be to conduct research and to explore modern concepts of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and other future technologies.

Deputy Director of IIT Kanpur, Manindra Agrawal, who is also a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, said that the proposal is in the discussion phase and is expected to be executed very soon.

IIT Kanpur has already started some courses in Artificial Intelligence and related subjects at the undergraduation level. Also, some of the IITs including IIT Hyderabad has started B.Tech courses in Artificial Intelligence.

Mr. Agrawal said, "Establishing a dedicated AI research centre will definitely strengthen undergraduate courses". After China and America, India has been ranked third in the world in terms of quality AI research publications.
